At Underwood Mold Company, we strive to achieve the best quality for our injection molding products, having maintained an ISO 9001 certification since 1999. We customize our manufacturing approach to satisfy all customer requirements.
ISO 9001:2015 Certification and Conflict Minerals Statement
Underwood Mold’s ISO 9001:2015 certification attests to the effectiveness of our quality management system. We follow all ISO 9001 guidelines during the manufacturing process, including:
- Fulfilling our own requirements
- Meeting customer requirements
- Meeting regulatory and statutory requirements
- Maintaining proper documentation
ISO certification ensures that we consistently deliver high-quality products to our clients. This saves money for everyone involved, resulting in satisfied customers, employees, and management.
In addition to following ISO guidelines, we assure that we do our due diligence in ethically sourcing conflict minerals. As such, we have our supply chain certify that no products supplied to us contain minerals like tin, gold, tungsten, and coltan providing funds to illegal mining operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and adjacent countries that finance nongovernmental mercenary groups.
Quality Standards of Underwood Mold Company
Underwood Mold develops operating standards for every product based on our customers’ print specifications, and we use these standards for our internal inspection criteria. In our process, the customer first provides us with 2D print drawings, resin requirements and inspection criteria. We then perform a first-article inspection (FAI) on initial samples. Once the customer approves the initial samples and FAI, we generate an operating standard with specific items to monitor at startup, in-process, and final inspections. At this point, the job is ready for production.
If a customer requires a more involved process, we also provide production part approval processes (PPAPs) upon request. Our inspection team consists of quality technicians on all shifts, 24 hours a day reporting to an independent quality manager. We also train our production operators on visual/attribute inspections.
We use basic metrology inspection equipment such as calipers and micrometers to optical comparators and spectrophotometers. These tools allow us to achieve tight tolerances on products that require a high degree of accuracy in manufacturing parts, including but not limited to:
- Housings and apparatus for medical equipment
- Commercial lighting and exit signs
- Meter boxes for the electrical industry
- Fiber optics and communications
- Industrial batteries
- Industrial lawn equipment
- Water filters and accessories
- Aerosol caps and packaging
